Expected Standard

Do we expect politicians to be perfect? Not perfect, because perfect doesn't exist, how about just honest. Should we hold our elected officials to a higher standard than everyone else? Maybe not a higher standard, but how about the same standard. Its not a higher standard to expect someone to do their job. If I lie to my boss I will be fired. Its not a higher standard to hold them to the same standards as a friend or family member. We should expect honesty from everyone anyway. It shows a lot about a person when they lie about themselves. If they lie about their own finances, they will also lie about yours when they have your money.

The United States Government is set up to give power to the people, not special people, but average people. The average person has problems in life. If you have problems in your personal life, should that disqualify you from representing the people in the U.S Congress or State Government? Not if you are honest about those problems. If you went through a messy divorce or you are a recovering alcoholic, be honest about it. Let the voters know the truth and let them decide. It is much worse to have the voters find out a lie through the grapevine. In a perfect world your personal life wouldn't be open to the public, unfortunately this is not a perfect world. When you run for office your life will become an open book.
We should expect honesty and transparency, that's not asking much. In fact it would show incredible character to come clean about a troubled past. Would you vote for an ex drug addict? I would, as long as he/she was honest about it. It is the man/woman that has no baggage and no problems that I wouldn't vote for. It is much more suspicious when someone has not had hard times. I would rather vote for someone who has faced problems head on. Someone without shame of who they are. A fighter who has overcome adversity and defeat the odds, what better person to help fix our country. If someone can't be honest to the public about who they are, they shouldn't get our vote.-BDB (Google Images)
